The City of Rochester Emergency Management Division (COREM) works in partnership with the Buffalo Computer Graphics, and New York State Emergency Management Office (SEMO) promoting all hazards preparedness. Buffalo Computer Graphics, Inc. and SEMO shared best practices and technology with City of Rochester and Olmsted County to develop Rochester-Alert website which was launched in 2011.
Founded in 1982, Buffalo Computer Graphics, Inc. (BCG) is a veteran owned U.S. small business headquartered in Blasdell, NY. BCG, the primary developer of the NY-Alert user-interface portal, is a provider of incident management software, GIS systems, maritime training products and custom engineering solutions for a variety of private, public and military customers both in the US and abroad.

The mission of the New York State Office of Emergency Management (NYSOEM) is to protect the lives and property of the citizens of New York States from threats posed by natural or man-made events. To fulfill this mission, NYSOEM coordinates emergency management services with other federal and State agencies to support county and local governments. NYSOEM routinely assists local government, volunteer organizations and private industry through a variety of emergency management programs. These programs involve hazard identification, loss prevention, planning, training, operational response to emergencies, technical support, alert and warning, and disaster recovery assistance.
NY-ALERT was developed by SEMO for use statewide to ensure that any or all portions of New York State could be notified of an impending emergency and provided with vital life safety information through the latest cutting-edge technology.
ROCHESTER-ALERT was developed by SEMO as a service to the City of Rochester and Olmsted County, Minnesota to provide a means to reach the general public with emergency messages. The partnership of SEMO, Buffalo Computer Graphics, and City of Rochester extended this valuable service to SE Minnesota for use in Olmsted County.
The National Weather Service works with Rochester-Alert to provide real-time alerts of severe weather situations such as tornadoes, thunderstorms, lightning, ice storms and other hazardous weather. The National Weather Service (NWS) provides weather, hydrologic, and climate forecasts and warnings for the United States, its territories, adjacent waters and ocean areas, for the protection of life and property and the enhancement of the national economy. NWS data and products form a national information database and infrastructure which can be used by other governmental agencies, the private sector, the public, and the global community.
The U.S. Geological Survey provides real-time information to Rochester-Alert on ecosystems and the environment such as streamflows, flood and high flow conditions and earthquakes. As the Nation's largest water, earth, and biological science and civilian mapping agency, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) collects, monitors, analyzes, and provides scientific understanding about natural resource conditions, issues, and problems. The diversity of USGS’s scientific expertise enables it to carry out large-scale, multi-disciplinary investigations and provide impartial scientific information to resource managers, planners, and other customers.
The
NY-Alert Twitter account is managed by the NY-Alert Technical Team. If you follow us, you can expect up to 100 tweets a week alerts ranging from Weather alerts to Life Safety Notifications. This Twitter account is set to read all Extreme and Severe public alerts posted within NY-Alert. The NY-Alert Twitter account follows the NY-Alert disclaimer and privacy policy which can be found at

NY-Alert on You Tube account is managed by the NY-Alert Technical Team. This channel will display videos uploaded by organizations and the NY-Alert technical staff.
